Don’t miss out on L.A.’s top 6 beaches

Tourists walking on footpath by beach during sunset

Los Angeles is the default city in California for endless fun in the sun, given its strategic location facing the Pacific Ocean. So, we rounded up six of the best beaches in L.A. to help you complete your itinerary.

  1. Santa Monica Beach
  2. This is one of the most popular beaches in the Greater Los Angeles area. Its long white sandy beaches offer plenty of space to sunbathe, team up for a game of volleyball or go for a bike ride. Bring sunscreen, some cash for food and parking, then channel the tanned beach gods and goddesses here. Moreover, your trip to the beach won’t be complete without visiting the iconic Pier. So, make sure to stop by for an extra thrill!

  3. Venice Beach
  4. Come to Venice Beach if you want to revel in various exhilarating activities. This is where the action is — from surfing to skating to street performing. This buzzing beach town also has foodie hotspots and coffee bars where you can have an afternoon chillout. Up for shopping? Venice Boardwalk is the site of funky shops so grab as many mementos as you can!

  5. Manhattan Beach
  6. Manhattan Beach is a mecca for surfers, sun worshippers, and shoppers. Once you’ve set foot here, you’ll never run out of things to do and see. Take a stroll on the Strand, play volleyball on the beach, bring or rent a surfboard and ride the waves, or enjoy a bike ride beside the sea. Looking for a bite to eat? Head to downtown for some local flavor. You’ll find local boutiques there, too!

  7. Hermosa Beach
  8. Hermosa Beach has a unique stylish vibe that you won’t find in other L.A. beaches. Sun worshippers will love the sandy beaches here that are perfect for a mid-morning nap on a beach blanket. The ocean side trails offer great views if you plan to run or stroll here. Whatever beach-related activity you have in mind, you’ll find in Hermosa Beach. Go sunbathing, sandcastle building, or biking!

  9. Malibu Surfrider Beach
  10. Surfrider Beach (a.k.a. Malibu Lagoon State Beach) is not called Surfrider for nothing. Its super-long righthand break makes it the place to go for the ideal Southern California surfing experience. Not only it is a hotspot for surfers but it’s also a great place for saltwater fishing and swimming. So, get your surfboards ready, zip up those wetsuits, and just enjoy the day as you ride the waves. (Note: Swimming areas are limited.)

  11. Point Dume State Beach
  12. Point Dume is situated at the end of Malibu where dramatic cliffs and a beautiful crescent-shaped beach await you. The beach sand is soft and the water is crystal clear – perfect for lazy sunning all day long. It’s also a great S.C.U.B.A. spot and an ideal spot to learn how to rock climb. Whether you’re ready to hike or just want to chill, Point Dume has it all.
